Broken Bow’s Haylie Brantley – Track Spotlight – Presented by James Hodge Dodge of Broken Bow

HAYLIE BRANTLEY-BROKEN BOW

Family has been an important part of senior Haylie Brantley’s athletic success at Broken Bow High School where she plays softball, basketball, runs track and is in dance. Out of these, she likes track the best where she runs the open 400- and 800-meter races and is on the 4X400 relay team.

“I started track in middle school and I had a cousin who was on the high school team so after my middle school practice I would go run with the high school team.”

Haylie has qualified for state in the 800 every year finishing sixth last year and fifth in the 400, which was the first year she ran it. The relay team has also qualified for state all three of her high school years.

“I like track because it’s mostly an individual sport where all the pressure is on you to help the team, and you don’t have to rely on someone else.”

It was a cousin, Shalee Brantley, who was a role model for her in softball.

“She went on to play in junior college and eventually at OSU. My dad has also been a big part of that by showing me that no matter how small you are you can still do anything, and he pushes me to be my best. I am little so I like playing slow pitch because I can hit one out every now and then, but I like the competition more in fast pitch.,” said Haylie who is in student council, Key Club, Spanish Club, FCA and the National Honor Society.

Haylie and track teammate Kennedee Brittain are the senior leaders, and she has a simple goal in mind.

“I want to get everyone supporting everyone on the team from the runners to the discus and shot people who I think don’t get enough recognition.”

Hayle has some specific personal goals as she looks to return to state.

“I want to PR at every meet and qualify for state in the 400 and 800 again. I have a goal of running the 400 in 56 or 57 seconds and the 800 in 2:15-2:20 and I want the relay team to go to state again.”

Haylie will attend Ouachita Baptist next year on a track scholarship.
