RATTAN RAMS
BOYS
Coach: Michael Clay
22-23 Record: 27-5
The Rattan Rams basketball team is eagerly preparing for the 2023-24 season with high expectations and a strong core of returning talent. Last year, the team achieved an impressive record of 27-5, and they’re determined to build on that success in the coming season. Coach Michael Clay is optimistic about the season, despite the challenge of filling a hole at the point guard position. “I see us as a state tournament team again this year,” Clay said. “All of the top-six are capable of having a 20-point game any night. We’ll be able to score from all over the floor. I’m excited to make another run to the state tournament.” The team boasts several skilled guards who are expected to step up and handle the playmaking duties. Rattan returns three starters who are poised to lead the way: Logan Smith (6-1, Sr.), Keegan Robertson (6-4, Sr.) and James Childers (6-1, Jr.). Additionally, the return of Canyon James (So.), who was sidelined by injury in the previous season, brings an added dimension to the team. Smith is a standout guard with a high basketball IQ. He’s capable of scoring from anywhere on the floor and possesses excellent playmaking skills. He’s also known for his strong defensive abilities. The team also benefits from the experience and contributions of Luke Tabor (Sr.) and Luke Clay (Sr.), both of whom will play essential roles in the post. Keller Shockey (Jr.) is noted for his three-point shooting ability, and Kobe Tabor (Fr.), considered one of the area’s top talents, had a remarkable summer, setting the stage for a successful high school debut. With a roster filled with players capable of scoring from various positions, Clay envisions a journey to the state tournament. The Rattan Boys are ready to make a strong statement in the upcoming season. With a well-rounded roster, the team has the potential to become a state tournament contender and excite fans with their dynamic style of play.
