KINSLEY SCRIVNER

WRIGHT CITY HIGH SCHOOL

By Nick Hampton

Senior Kinsley Scrivner has been through the highs and lows of softball at Wright City in her career and has taken it all in stride because she loves the game.

“My dad was really into baseball when he was young and so he got me started when I was just three or four and I feel like I’ve been playing all my life but it’s really a bonding thing for me and him,” chuckled Kinsley. “I really like playing as a team and coming together to accomplish our goals,” said Kinsley who also plays post for the Lady ‘Jax basketball team.

Though she still has her senior year left to make highlights, Scrivner says one is already in the memory banks from earlier this year.

“For sure one of my highlights was getting past the district playoffs in slow pitch this past spring which hasn’t happened in probably 10 years.”

Kinsley is one of three seniors on the team this year along with nine freshmen that will be looking to find a spot in the lineup so her leadership will be vitally important.

“I like to make sure that everyone is heard on the team and that we stick to routines as a team like stretching and throwing and conditioning. I want to hype the freshmen up and build up their confidence so that they believe they can be starters even as freshmen,” said Scrivner, herself a four-year starter.

Kinsley pitches and plays third base for the Lumberjax and says she feels most comfortable in the “hot corner”.

“I didn’t start pitching until seventh grade and I was just kind of drafted into it because there wasn’t anyone else to do it but I’m more comfortable at third base and that’s what I play in slow pitch.”

Outside of softball, Kinsley is on the student council and Fish Club which is an FCA-like organization open to all students.Kinsley says she would like to play college softball somewhere if the opportunity arises, but if not, attend Northeastern State and study to be a speech pathologist.
