Broken Bow’s Stauter Brown
A busy schedule is nothing new for Stauter Brown. The Broken Bow sophomore competes in four sports — football, basketball, track and golf — and has already collected more accomplishments than many athletes do over an entire high school career.
Among the memories that stand out most is an achievement that happened before he reached high school. Brown was part of a middle school archery team that captured a state championship, an experience he still remembers fondly. Since then, he has continued adding to his resume, including helping Broken Bow earn a district championship in football and make a deep playoff run last season.
While the wins and trophies are important, Brown believes athletics have provided lessons that extend far beyond competition.
“Sports have taught me how to handle my emotions in a positive way,” Brown said. “It has taught me how I need to rely on my teammates and I have to be reliable to them.”
That mindset has helped him balance multiple sports while continuing to develop as both an athlete and teammate. Whether he is on the football field, basketball court, golf course or track, Brown understands success is built on consistency and trust.
One person who played a major role in Brown’s growth is Greydon Howell. As a freshman stepping into a varsity environment, Brown quickly learned he had someone willing to help guide him through the challenges of competing at a higher level.
“He treated me, even as a freshman, as someone worth helping out in understanding our offense and defense,” Brown said. “He has been instrumental in my improvement as a player.”
Brown has also been influenced by educators who took an interest in students beyond the classroom. He points to Mr. Glasson as one of the most impactful teachers he has had. Brown appreciated the patience Glasson showed in life science class and the way he connected with students outside of school, even organizing fishing trips.
Away from athletics, Brown stays involved through Student Council and the youth group at Trinity Baptist Church. Those activities help keep him connected to his school and community.
His love for McCurtain County is rooted in the outdoors. Hunting and fishing are among his favorite hobbies, and he appreciates having access to the lakes, woods and open spaces that make southeastern Oklahoma unique.
Brown’s approach to life is guided by a simple piece of advice: “You reap what you sow.” It is a philosophy that reflects the values instilled by his parents, whom he credits as his biggest supporters. Their encouragement, combined with a strong work ethic, continues to shape a young athlete determined to make the most of every opportunity.
