Idabel’s Jordyn Lewis
Leadership is something that often develops over time, but for Idabel High School senior Jordyn Lewis, it has become one of the accomplishments he values most. A three-sport athlete competing in football, basketball and track, Lewis has spent years building not only his skills on the field and court but also his ability to guide younger teammates.
While athletic achievements often grab headlines, Lewis said being a leader to underclassmen is what stands out most when he reflects on his high school career. He understands the importance of setting an example and helping younger athletes navigate the challenges that come with balancing sports, school and life.
Sports have also helped shape Lewis’ character. Through victories, setbacks and countless hours of practice, he has learned lessons that extend far beyond competition.
“Sports made me tougher and taught me to never give up,” Lewis said.
That mindset has helped him stay focused through difficult moments and continue pushing forward, regardless of the obstacles in front of him. It is a lesson that has become part of his approach both in athletics and everyday life.
Lewis credits much of his growth to the people who have supported him along the way. One of the most influential figures in his journey has been Idabel Head Coach Braxton Kincade, someone he describes as more than just a coach.
“He’s really been there for me,” Lewis said. “If I ever need to talk to someone, it’ll be him for sure.”
Lewis also points to his mother as one of his biggest supporters. Alongside Coach Kincade, she has remained a constant source of encouragement throughout his athletic career.
“My mom and Coach Kincade have both stood by me and supported my journey in sports,” he said.
Another person who inspires Lewis is his friend, Tayshawn. Watching his teammate consistently show up, improve and work hard every day has reinforced the value of dedication and perseverance.
“Seeing him get better and stronger every day makes me enjoy sports a little more,” Lewis said.
Away from athletics, Lewis enjoys spending time around town, especially visiting the district area with friends. Although Idabel is a small town, Lewis appreciates its close-knit community and the meaningful memories he has made there with family and friends.
One quote has become especially important to him: “You don’t know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.” For Lewis, those words serve as a reminder to appreciate every opportunity, chase big goals and never quit. As he prepares for his final year at Idabel, he hopes to leave behind a legacy of leadership, resilience and determination.
