Smithville’s Brianna Youngblood – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Weyerhaeuser

What does it take to be a leader on the softball field? For Brianna Youngblood, it’s about setting an example and pushing her team to be better every day. “My role on the team is to be a leader, both on and off the field. As the shortstop, my job is to field the ball and to perform well at the plate. But as a senior, my responsibility goes beyond that—I strive to be a positive influence, set a strong example, and support my teammates with a great attitude,” she said.

Youngblood’s softball journey started unexpectedly, but it quickly became a major part of her life. “I first got into softball around seventh grade. Initially, I wasn’t a fan of the sport, but once I started playing, I quickly fell in love with it,” she explained. A travel ball opportunity sparked her passion. “I was asked to fill in a spot for a player that couldn’t make the game. Also, I didn’t enjoy watching my friends have fun while I sat on the sidelines. So, I decided to join the team, and that’s when my love for the sport really began.”

Now in her senior season at Smithville, she values the close bond she shares with her teammates. “Our team chemistry has been amazing this year. We all get along so well, and I love that I get to play alongside my best friends. It truly feels like a second family to me,” Youngblood said. That chemistry is key as she chases her biggest goal. “My goal for this season is for us to improve by at least one percent every day. I want to see my team grow and make consistent progress. My biggest hope is to make it to the state tournament and have the opportunity to play in the Hall of Fame.”

After high school, Youngblood will continue her softball career at the University of Arkansas at Rich Mountain. “I’ll be playing college softball for the Lady Bucks,” she said. No matter where the future takes her, she’ll always be grateful for the lessons and memories the game has given her.
