In high school softball, there are players, and then there are leaders. Faith Miller, a talented athlete from Wright City High School, exemplifies the latter.
Throughout her softball career, Miller has been fortunate to have Coach Alford as her guiding force. His impact on her extends beyond the field; he’s nurtured her into a leader. “Because of him, I have been able to step up and be a leader while still enjoying playing on the team,” Miller said.
Speaking of leadership, Miller holds her teammate and best friend, Kinsley Scrivner, in high regard. Kinsley’s unwavering positivity and selflessness have left an indelible mark on Faith. She aspires to emulate Kinsley’s qualities, understanding that a good teammate always puts the team before themselves.
Reflecting on her educational journey, Miller acknowledges Mr. Crabtree as her favorite teacher. Although it took him some time to remember her name, his kindness and dedication to his students have made a profound impact. “He always believed in us more than we believed in ourselves,” Miller said.
Preparation is the key to success, and Miller has invested her off-season in becoming the best version of herself. Her regimen includes running, strength training and a focus on enhancing her mental toughness, crucial for navigating challenging situations both on and off the field.
One of Miller’s cherished memories comes from a dream-turned-reality. Despite being a senior with no prior pitching experience, her determination and insistence finally led to an inning as a pitcher. “Even though it probably the worst inning of softball in the books, I won’t ever forget that moment,” she said.
The most anticipated matchup on Miller’s calendar is the district competition against Rattan. The intense rivalry and close games between the two teams promise an exciting showdown.
As her high school journey nears its end, Miller is ready for the next chapter. She plans to attend Northeastern State University, with her sights set on becoming an occupational therapist.
Faith Miller, with her tenacity, leadership, and determination, is not just a softball star but a shining example of what it means to be a dedicated student-athlete.
