Some athletes are defined by their talent, but for Brody Dorries, it’s his character and love for the game that truly set him apart. “I love life, my family, friends, and Jesus Christ,” he said. “I like to think I am a fun, outgoing person but also a very loyal person. I try to always stand up for what’s right and treat others the way I would like to be treated.” His passion for baseball started early, with his dad and grandfather coaching him in T-ball at just four years old. “I fell in love with baseball at a very young age, and it’s been a huge part of my life,” Dorries said.
The strong support system in Dorries’ life has helped shape him into the player and person he is today. “My dad, Shawn Dorries, inspired me to play baseball. He was pitching balls and playing catch with me since I was probably two years old,” he said. “My parents, Shawn and Kamie Dorries, and my grandparents, Tommy and Julie Dorries, are my biggest influences. They have always been there for me no matter what happens in life or sports.”
As a leader on the Valliant baseball team, Dorries takes his role seriously. “My role on this year’s team is the same as previous years—to be one of the main team leaders,” he said. “I play shortstop, pitch, and bat at the top of the lineup, so I have to be ready to do my job to help my team be successful. I try my best to keep the team’s spirits up when we aren’t playing our best because I know what we are capable of, which is to be great.”
With big goals for the season, Dorries is ready to give it his all. “My goal is to make it to state for the second time in school history. The first time Valliant made it to state was my dad’s senior year,” he said. “I would also like to keep improving as a player and hopefully catch the attention of some college baseball coaches to get recruited.”
