Q&A with Valliant’s Audrey Daves – Presented By McCurtain County National Bank

VYPE: What has it taken to be successful in your sports?

Audrey: To be successful in my athletic career it has taken time, effort, and a whole lot of dedication and grit. Sports have taken time away from other aspects of my life. I have had to put in so much effort throughout my athletic career because I am not the tallest, fastest, or even the best player, I’ve always had to be the player that hustles the most or works the hardest in order to be any good.

VYPE: What has been the highlight moment of your career?

Audrey: The highlight of my career is a toss-up between beating Marlow my sophomore year in the Area tournament, to advance on to the state tournament. Or receiving conference Defensive Player of the Year two years in a row. I was very proud in both of these moments.

VYPE: Is there an opponent that you enjoy beating the most?

Audrey: The opponent that I enjoy beating the most has to be Wright City. They are my school’s rival so it only makes sense that I enjoy beating them.

VYPE: What does it mean to you to represent your school and community when you play?

Audrey: To represent Valliant means taking pride in my school and teammates and it means that when I am in public with my Bulldog gear on, I act up to Coach Nix’s standards and give out a good vision of my team.

VYPE: Which teammate do you enjoy working against the most in practice?

Audrey: The teammate I enjoyed working against the most in practice is my sister, Leah Daves, we both have such a competitive nature and we always try our hardest when we are  against each other. She makes me better.

VYPE: Who are some of your biggest influences or role models?

Audrey: My biggest influence would have to be my coach, Patrick Nix. He preaches always giving max effort and never quitting, he was a very aggressive player in high school and I tried to play how I think he would have.

VYPE: What teacher has had the biggest impact on your life?

Audrey: Dooley Parsons has been the teacher that has impacted me the most. He has been my teacher for all 4 years of high school and I have learned so many life lessons and skills in his classes. He is a very hard worker and he always puts others’ needs before his own, I want to be more like Dooley.

VYPE: Who is your favorite person you follow on social media?

Audrey: My favorite person I follow on social media is my best friend, Sydney Tyler. I know this is probably supposed to be an influencer or someone with a bigger following, but Sydney is my favorite person and I think her posts are really funny.

VYPE: What clubs and campus activities are you involved with?

Audrey: I am a member of the Future Farmers of America, National Honor Society, National Society of High School Scholars, and Cattle Handling Team.
