9 Q’s with Idabel’s Damaya Hunt Presented by New Century Abstract

VYPE: What preparation have you taken this off-season to better equip yourself for the upcoming season?
Damaya Hunt: I’ve been working out, staying after practice and going to the field or to the gym when I don’t have to. I am putting in as much work as I can to better myself and be as great as I can in my last year of high school.


VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
DH: My sport has taught me that everyone makes mistakes and it’s okay. Not everyone is perfect, you have to fix the mistake and move on.


VYPE: What has been your favorite memory in your sport?
DH: My favorite memory is going to regionals in softball and competing all the way to the last inning. My favorite memory in basketball was making it to state.


VYPE: What are your plans after high school?
DH: My plans are to attend college at Langston University and major in sports medicine.


VYPE: Who has been your favorite coach throughout your career and how did they impact you as a player?
DH: My favorite coach has actually been all my coaches. All of them push me and make me go hard in everything I do. They push me to be the best I can be.


VYPE: Did you have any teammates that you admire or that supported you?
DH: Yes, I have a few teammates that have inspired me. They tell me what I’m doing wrong, and they never let me get down on myself. They are very uplifting and supportive. If I don’t know something, they slow down and help me.


VYPE: Who was your favorite teacher and how were they influential in your life?
DH: My favorite teacher is Ms. Edmondson; she has helped me since day one of entering high school. She has an answer to every question and is never is in a bad mood, it’s always smiles and fun times with her.


VYPE: What do you hope to accomplish this season?
DH: I hope that my team and I will take state and win the whole thing.


VYPE: What matchup are you most looking forward to this season?
DH: I’m looking forward to the Arkansas Tournament of Champions.
