Jaxton Weedn, a standout player from Haworth High School, shares his basketball journey, influences and aspirations in this spotlight.
For Jaxton, the answer to his favorite coach is an easy one: “My Dad is my favorite coach.” The impact of having his father coach his elementary and junior high teams has been profound. The emphasis on toughness, accountability, and a strong work ethic has been crucial in Jaxton’s development. Winning the 2022 State Championship together was a special moment, creating lasting memories.
Jaxton’s admiration extends to his older brother, Jaken: “We enjoyed two seasons together, and boy were they special!” Jaken’s remarkable career, finishing second all-time in Oklahoma High School Basketball History for made three-pointers, and his crucial free throws in the 2022 State Championship showcase the family’s basketball prowess. Looking forward, Jaxton anticipates playing alongside his younger brother, Jaren, in the 2024-2025 season.
In the realm of education, Jaxton’s favorite teacher is none other than his mom: “My mom is my favorite teacher.” Beyond making learning enjoyable, she instilled the importance and love of reading in Jaxton from an early age.
The recent off-season presented challenges with the move to a new school. Despite this, Jaxton and his team focused on crucial aspects like ball handling, shooting, strength and athleticism to ensure they are well-equipped for the upcoming season.
Basketball, for Jaxton, has instilled in him valuable life lessons: “Basketball has taught me the importance of having strong work ethic, being consistent and continuing to learn and get better every day.”
Among the plethora of memories, winning the 2022 State Championship with his family stands out as Jaxton’s favorite. The joy of achieving success together on the court adds a special touch to his basketball journey.
Looking ahead, Jaxton sets ambitious goals for the season: “My goal for this season is to improve my all-around game.” Personally, he aims to increase points, assists and rebounds, while the team’s collective goal is to secure a spot in the Area tournament for a chance to reach State.
Beyond high school, Jaxton envisions a future where he continues to play basketball while working towards a degree in Cyber Security.
