HANNAH LANDRETH
HAWORTH HIGH SCHOOL
Coach Sarah Morgan is slowly starting to turn things around in the softball program at Haworth High as she begins her third year.
“This is the first year since I’ve been here that we haven’t had to plead for girls to come out for the team,” said Morgan.
And even though the Lady Lions will be young with just a couple of seniors and a junior who has played only one year, they do have sophomore Hannah Landreth.
“Hannah is a fighter. She tore her ACL at the end of her eighth-grade basketball season, so she missed slow pitch that year and wasn’t released until the second week of the fast pitch season last fall and she still led the team in homeruns with seven,” said Morgan. “She’s one of those girls that if she’s not at practice or a game, she’s working on her craft and she’s also a 4.0 kid in the classroom.”
While she’ll do the majority of the pitching this year for Haworth, Hannah plays third base for her travel team, the Oklahoma Pulse.
“I love playing third base the most because every game you have a chance to reach your goals. It teaches you a lot about mentality and not getting down on yourself. At third base you have to have quick reactions and I love it,” said Hannah who is in the National Honor Society.
By her own admission, Hannah wasn’t very good when she started playing softball but then she got on the travel ball team and things improved quickly, which her coach has taken note of.
“From last fall until this fall her growth has skyrocketed and I credit a lot of that to her travel ball experience,” said Morgan.
Hannah, who says her best pitch is the screwball, has a goal of hitting .500 this season and helping the Lady Lions to more wins. She draws her inspiration from a very special place.
“One of the things that inspires me to play is for my grandpa who passed away last winter. I always try to do my best for him.”
