HAWORTH LIONS

BOYS

Coach: Jeff Weedn

22-23 Record: 15-11

The excitement surrounding the completion of a new gymnasium and the return of proven performers has the roar of Lions basketball making a loud and worthwhile noise. Jeff Weedn takes the reins as head coach eager to tipoff the new campaign with a roster filled with playmakers. One cause for the excitement is the anticipated results from Jaxton Weedn (6-2, Jr.) who averaged 16.3 points per game last season to help Glencoe reach the Class B state tournament field last year where his dad was the head coach. “Jaxton has a high basketball IQ,” said the Lions head coach “He’s been in the spotlight since his freshman season when Glencoe won the state tournament title in 2022.” Omarion Frost (5-8, Sr.) returns to the hardwood after averagine 10.0 points a game last year joined by Jance Allen (6-4, Jr.) whose presence in the paint produced an 8.0 scoring average and Cash Clardy (6-8, Jr.) who chipped in 6.0 points per game while using his size for a strong rebounding presence playing alongside Zadin Colbert (6-8, Jr.). “This trio will give us strength on the front line,” said Weedn. “Jance is the kind of player that because of his work ethic does all the little things right and can be a double-double threat night in night out.” As the Lions adapt to a new coach and philosophy, Weedn likes the probable productivity that will come from Strylin Poindexter (6-4, Jr.) who Weedn singled out for his athleticism and court vision, Zane Clampet (6-0, Jr.), Zakavien Threadgill (6-0, Jr.) to add to the offensive firepower as well as Christian Smith (5-10, Jr.), Tyler Dillard (5-8, Jr.), Cole Clardy (6-2, Jr.), TaeShawn McGee (6-1, So.), Qwontrill Williams (5-10, Sr.) and Kyren Matthews (5-8, Fr.). “This group of young men continue to impress me with great work ethic and a desire to improve,” said Weedn. “There’s plenty of energy and enthusiasm in our practices that will transition to game.”
