VYPE: Are you proud of what your Broken Bow team has accomplished these past few
years?
Kieler Young: I am proud of what my team at Broken Bow has accomplished over my 4 years here. We didn’t achieve the goal that every team strives for, which is winning a state championship but I feel like every year we had some sort of adversity and we always pushed through and kept playing hard no matter what.
VYPE: How did you feel seeing your name on the All-State list? Did it validate your hard
work?
KY: Seeing my name on the all state list was a big accomplishment for me. Making the all state team has always been one of my goals ever since I was a little kid. When I found out my name was on the list, I was super excited, and I just thought about all the hours I spent in the gym, and it feels good knowing that all the work I put in paid off.
VYPE: Which teammate had the greatest impact on you, and why?
KY: I would say the teammate that had the biggest impact on me is Josh Jones. He was a senior when I was a freshman and he taught me a lot. I looked up to him because he led us to the state tournament, scored over 2,000 career points, and made the All-State team. He is one of the best players ever from Broken Bow, and he inspired me a lot.
VYPE: How do you hope your classmates and teammates remember you?
KY: I hope that my classmates and teammates remember me as a hard worker and someone who leads by example. I think that anybody can achieve anything they put their mind to.
VYPE: Why was Northeastern State [Tahlequah] the right place for you?
KY: I feel like NSU was the right place for me because when I visited and met the coaches, I loved everything about it. I loved the campus and, most importantly, I think I fit in with the team and how they play. I am excited to get to work at NSU.
