Idabel’s Myla Green – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Jake Denison Farmers Insurance

Growth often defines the journey of a young athlete, and for Idabel freshman Myla Green, that journey is just getting started. “My personal goal this season is to improve my shooting accuracy,” Green said. “Take and focus on one game at a time. Taking care of business at hand.” That mindset has guided her approach as she adjusts to the varsity level early in her career.
As a young squad, Idabel has leaned into the process of improvement. “We are a young team but we are working hard and heavy every day to get better as a team,” Green shared. That effort has already begun to show. “We are a young team – some of us have played together in the years past but we are learning to play together, trust each other and play off of each other’s strengths,” she said.
Team goals remain centered on steady progress. “One of the team goals is to get better each game,” Green explained. “I work hard in practice and I try my best to leave it all on the court each and every game and be better than the last game.” That approach reflects what she believes is the team’s greatest asset. “In my opinion our biggest strength is we have fight in us from buzzer to buzzer,” she said. “We are tough and resilient.”
Green plays in the post, handling responsibilities on both ends of the floor. “I play the 4 and 5,” she said. When facing opposing defenses, she relies on awareness and instincts. “Having good court vision and the ability to read defensive schemes,” Green noted. “I’m looking for weaknesses to play off of.”
Preparation for high-intensity games goes beyond the physical. “Enhance my focus and confidence by believing and trusting my self as well as my teammates,” she said. Once she steps on the court, her mentality is clear. “Dominate,” Green said. “Stay focused on the job at hand, have confidence in myself and understand the importance of teamwork and supporting my teammates.”
Looking ahead, Green wants her impact to extend beyond the stat sheet. “I want my legacy to be remembered not just for my athletic skills, but for the positive influence and legacy left behind in the lives of others,” she said. Fans should remember one thing about this group: “We are a young team and the best is yet to come.”
Her favorite memory so far captures a special beginning. “Stepping on the court my first game as a freshman starting,” Green said. “I scored 18 points that night.” After high school, she plans “to become a Nurse in the Military,” continuing to serve with the same determination she shows in an Idabel uniform.
