For Valliant senior shortstop Brianna Peters, being a leader starts with being the kind of teammate others can depend on. “A personal goal this season is to become a better teammate, on and off the field,” Peters said. Her approach to the game is centered on growth, communication, and giving everything she has to help her team succeed.
After a strong offseason, the Lady Bulldogs entered this year more united than ever. “We’re really focusing on our communication on the field, making sure we’re backing each other up and giving everything we have as a team,” she said. That emphasis on teamwork has paid off in noticeable ways. “The biggest improvement I’ve seen is our team’s communication and how well we work together,” Peters added.
With the ultimate goal of reaching the state tournament, Peters says the group has stayed committed to the basics. “We’re working hard in practice, focusing on fundamentals, and supporting each other.” She believes one of the team’s greatest strengths lies in their connection both on and off the diamond. “Our biggest strength right now is our team chemistry,” Peters said. “We all get along well and support each other, which translates to better performance on the field.”
A versatile player, Peters primarily holds down shortstop but prides herself on being adaptable. “I play shortstop mainly but can play anywhere on the field besides first base and pitcher,” she said. Her game preparation is built around discipline and readiness. “I’m big on staying hydrated and eating right, plus lots of practice to keep my skills sharp for game day.”
Peters’ mindset reflects her maturity and leadership. “Defensively, my mindset is to stay focused, anticipate the play, and make every out count,” she said. “Offensively, it’s about being aggressive, having confidence, and doing whatever it takes to get on base and score runs.”
Her favorite memory so far? “Winning the district championship last year in a hard-fought game,” Peters said.
Looking ahead, she hopes to leave behind a legacy of effort and heart. “I want my legacy at Valliant to be remembered as someone who always gave their best, worked hard, and contributed to the team’s success.”
When it’s time to lock in before a game, her go-to hype song is “Goodbye Yesterday” by Elevation Rhythm — a perfect reflection of her mindset: focus forward, work hard, and never stop growing.
