WRIGHT CITY LUMBERJAX & LADY JAX
Coach: JOHNNY CRABTREE
2024 Boys Record: Won Two Meets
2024 Girls Record: Did Not Win a Meet
BOYS
The Wright City Lumberjax cross country team is poised for a breakout season following a strong finish last fall. With a talented and determined group returning, head coach Johnny Crabtree is confident in what lies ahead. “We will have a really strong team this fall, should finish at least in the top four,” said Crabtree. That belief starts with sophomore standout Jaylon Hill, who made All-State as a freshman after finishing 9th at the state meet.
“Jaylon is only a sophomore and already a state medalist. I expect him to repeat again this season,” said Crabtree. Jaylon’s brother, Jaxon Hill, is another critical piece of the team. “His brother probably would have made All-State but got really sick the week of state,” Crabtree explained. With both Hills healthy, Wright City has a dangerous one-two punch leading the pack.
The Lumberjax captured two meet titles last season and will look to add more hardware to their resume. The schedule includes key competitions at Valliant, Henryetta, and North Rock Creek leading into the regional and state meets. With experience and motivation on their side, Wright City will be one of the top contenders in Class 2A.
GIRLS
On the girls’ side, the Lady Jax are led by senior Kenlie Zilliox, a gritty and consistent runner who finished 13th at the state meet last year and earned 2nd Team All-State honors. “Kinlie was 2nd Team All-State by finishing 13th at the state meet. I expect her to make All-State this year,” said Crabtree.
Though unsuccessful in 2024, they look to have a comeback season in 2025. But with Zilliox returning and younger runners developing, the team is trending upward. Crabtree is focused on progress and growth. The team’s schedule features meets that will test their endurance and prepare them for the postseason.
With both programs showing promise, the Lumberjax and Lady Jax are set for a memorable 2025 campaign. “We are very proud of these kids,” said Crabtree. These athletes represent Wright City well and work hard every day.
