Wright City’s Jaxon Hill – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by Weyerhaeuser

Jaxon Hill has always been grateful for the lessons baseball has taught him. Starting at a young age, the Wright City right fielder built a foundation of skills and values that have shaped both his game and his character. “A lot of things I know now are things that I have learned playing youth baseball,” he shared. His passion for the sport ignited early. “I really thought the sport was just really fun when I played. And one person that I always look up to, to this day, is Bryce Harper.”

A highlight of Jaxon’s baseball journey has been the unbreakable bond he shares with his teammates. “I can’t. The team bond that we shared this season is genuinely indescribable and unlike anything I have ever been a part of. We are seriously a family,” he said. Their connection translated to incredible results on the field, including outscoring opponents 303-69 this season.

Jaxon plays in the nine spot and focuses on refining his defensive skills and hitting. “A couple ways I prepare is working on my defense—not really on fly balls, but I like to work on the line drives. I have trouble staying down on them, and then hit. Coach Butler wants us to hit, hit, hit all the time, and it truly paid off this season,” he explained.

Moments of adversity have taught Jaxon resilience, such as a game against Wister where he struggled at the plate. “I was 0-4. I was getting mad and doubting myself. I didn’t know why coach wasn’t taking me out of the batting lineup, but now I know it’s because he believed that I could do something. I got up to bat in the bottom of the seventh, tie ballgame, and got the winning hit.”

Winning a state championship stands as Jaxon’s proudest achievement. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime thing that happened,” he said. He also treasures the support from the Wright City community. “It reminds us this game is more than ourselves. When you look out there at the fans, you just think, man, they are all here for me and our team. We can’t let them down.”

Looking ahead, Jaxon plans to pursue a career as a pilot while cherishing his time as a Wright City Lumberjack. “In five years, I plan on having finished high school with at least another state ring. But other than that, I plan on going to college to become a pilot and to be a husband,” he said.
