Wright City’s Rayner Beene – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by McCurtain County National Bank

Rayner Beene has been part of Wright City High School his entire life, and baseball has been a constant. “I’ve been playing baseball since the moment I could pick up a ball and I’ve loved it ever since,” Rayner shares. For him, the sport isn’t just a game—it’s a lifelong passion.
The foundation of Rayner’s love for baseball comes from his family, especially his dad. “My dad has definitely been my biggest influence. He’s taught me everything I know about the game.” His father’s guidance has shaped Rayner into not just a player, but a leader on the field.
As a senior, Rayner’s role on the team has evolved, with leadership at the forefront. “Since my junior year, Coach Butler has preached leadership to me, and I feel like that has been my biggest role,” Rayner explains. “Every team needs that constant guy, and as a senior, I’ve been working to be that rock the team needs.”
Rayner’s goals for his final season are clear: “Definitely win back-to-back state titles to end my high school career and the first ever to do so in Wright City history.” His determination to leave a lasting legacy drives his every move.
Balancing basketball and baseball during the season requires intense training. “In basketball right now, I try to lift 4-5 times a week and still throw and hit about twice a week on top of our basketball practices,” Rayner says, emphasizing his commitment to both sports.
Looking back at his career, Rayner recalls the state title win as his most memorable moment. “To not only win a game but win 3 and dogpile with your childhood best friends is easily the most memorable moment.”
Off the field, Rayner has big plans. “After my two years at Murray State Community College, I would love to continue playing for as long as I can if the Lord allows. A college degree and a plan toward a job would be ideal.”
For younger players, Rayner’s advice is simple but powerful: “Treat every day and game like it is your last. We never know what the Lord has ahead for us.”
Rayner’s leadership, work ethic, and love for his community make him a standout athlete at Wright City, and his journey is just getting started.
