Battiest’s Ashlyn Bond – Softball Spotlight – Presented by McCurtain County National Bank

Ashlyn Bond’s journey in softball started early, with her dad and coach Jo Lynn being key influences. “I love doing stuff that I truly cherish,” Ashlyn says. “How I got started in slow pitch softball is by my dad and by Jo Lynn, who is my coach.” With their guidance, Ashlyn found a passion that has shaped her entire high school experience.
The athletes at the University of Oklahoma had a major impact on Ashlyn’s decision to pursue the game. “The OU softball players inspired me when I first started playing,” she explains. “My biggest influence was Sydney Romero on the OU softball team.” Watching them play fueled her dream of excelling in the sport herself.
Ashlyn describes her team’s chemistry as a perfect mix of focus and fun. “Our team chemistry is serious and fun at the same time. We always have fun, but we know when to get serious,” she says. This balance has helped the team remain motivated and successful.
As a senior, Ashlyn’s role has shifted to that of a leader. “My role is to be a leader,” she shares. “I prepare by listening to the coach and having no attitude toward one another.” Her leadership helps set the tone for her teammates both on and off the field.
Ashlyn’s goals for the season are clear: “My goal is to play my hardest and always be a good role model to others,” she says. “What I hope for this season is to get past districts and push ourselves to try our best.” Her determination to achieve success drives her every day.
A major challenge came last year when there was no slow pitch team. “The challenging moment for me is when we didn’t have a slow pitch team last year,” Ashlyn reflects. “But now we have a team to play this year, and I am so happy that we do.”
Looking forward, Ashlyn hopes to continue playing sports in college and eventually join the Army Reserve. “I see myself in college playing sports and becoming an army reserve,” she says.
Ashlyn’s advice to younger athletes: “Give it a try, and if you want to play college softball or even become a pro, don’t ever give up. You can make your dreams happen.”
