Q&A with Idabel’s Mercedes Lopez – Softball Spotlight – Presented by New Century Abstract

VYPE: What inspired you to play your sport, and who are your biggest influences? 

Mercades Lopez: My parents inspired me to play. My parents in my sister are my biggest influences I love them and thank them for everything.

VYPE: What is your specific role on the team, and how do you prepare for it? 
ML: I am the leader of the team and i prepare by leading by example and putting in extra work.

VYPE: What are your goals and hopes for this season? 
ML: 
My goals for this season is to have a great season have fun and win a lot of games.

VYPE: Can you share a highlight or memorable moment from last season?
ML:
 My most memorable moment was when I dove for a ground ball and got the girl out at 1st.

VYPE: Where do you see yourself in five years, both in sports and outside of it? 
ML:
 In five years, I see myself graduating college and being a physical therapist.

VYPE: What advice would you give to younger players aspiring to play high school sports? 
ML: I would tell my younger self to keep working hard and to have fun.

VYPE: Who do you look up to as a role model, both on and off the field? 
ML:
 I see my mom as a role model. She is so strong and does everything for me and is always there.

VYPE: What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of sports? 
ML: 
I love to do eyelashes for myself and others.

VYPE: Looking back, what are you most proud of in your sports career at your school? 
ML:
 I am very proud to be a state champion in track two times and basketball once. I am also very happy we beat Broken Bow for the first time in softball last season.

VYPE: Is there anyone you’d like to thank for supporting you throughout your journey? 
ML:
 I would like to thank my whole family I love them all so much and is very grateful for them.

VYPE: What are your plans after graduating from high school? Are you considering playing sports in college? 
ML: 
I will continue my softball career at Murray state College. Where I plan to major in physical therapy.
