Wright City Lady Jax Basketball Team – Presented by Weyerhaeuser

WRIGHT CITY LADY JAXS

GIRLS

Coach: MISTY HALEY

23-24 Record: 26-4

The Wright City Lady Jaxs are ready for another strong season in 2024, building off a successful 2023 campaign where they finished with an impressive 26-4 record. With a blend of returning veterans and talented newcomers, the team is poised to make a deep run in the upcoming season. “I believe that our outlook for this year is very positive,” head coach Misty Haley said. “We return several players with extensive varsity experience, including one starter and one part-time starter. We have an outstanding freshmen class coming in who are high school ready, and I am looking for them to be a contributing factor in the success of our team this season.”

Leading the way for the Lady Jaxs is senior Braileigh Threadgill (5-9, Guard, Sr.), a returning starter who averaged 9.9 points and 7.7 rebounds per game last season. “Braileigh is a returning starter who will be counted on to provide senior leadership, which is so important for your team,” Haley remarked. “She came close to averaging a double-double last year, and we are depending on her to bring intensity to the defensive end of the court and help her younger teammates adjust to high school basketball.”

Junior Mia Reich (5-7, Guard, Jr.) will also play a crucial role this season after contributing 5.9 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists per game last year. “Mia has the chance to be one of the best players in our conference,” said Haley. “She has all the tools—she is coachable and a hard worker. Mia has really improved over the past two years, and I believe she will really break out this season.” The Lady Jaxs’ roster also includes a host of young, talented players who are ready to make an impact. Freshman Aniya Pigg (5-5, Guard, Fr.) has impressed the coaching staff with her athleticism and ability to get to the rim. “Aniya is a tremendous athlete,” Haley said. “She has the ability to get to the rim and finish. Her jumping ability allows her to rebound and really cause havoc on the defensive end of the court.”

In addition to the freshmen, several returning players will also contribute key minutes for Wright City. Junior Grace Vance (5-8, Forward, Jr.), who contributed 4.5 points per game, 4.4 rebounds per game, and 23 blocks last season, is expected to provide leadership and strong defensive play. “Grace is a person of high character. She works hard on the court and encourages others on the team. Grace really loves basketball, and it shows in the effort she exhibits every day in practice.” The Lady Jaxs also boast an exciting freshmen class that includes Peyton Miller (5-6, Guard, Fr.), Lillie Cogburn (5-7, Forward, Fr.), Isabella Young (5-8, Forward, Fr.), Kaelynn Wesley (5-5, Guard, Fr.), Delayney Kemp (5-5, Guard, Fr.), Taygan Skieens (5-6, Guard, Fr.), Kambri Moore (5-5, Forward, Fr.), McKinsey Bunn (5-6, Guard, Fr.), and Liberty Cantrell (5-7, Forward, Fr.). These newcomers are ready to step into big roles and help elevate the team’s play. “Sophomores Poppy Christie (5-4, Guard, So.) and Allie Evans (5-6, Guard, So.) will also provide important depth for the team,” said Haley. “I’m excited to see how they continue to develop and help us as the season progresses.”
