Idabel’s Shane Threadgill – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Guacamole Brothers Mexican Restaurant

SHANE THREADGILL-IDABEL

After advancing to the Class 3A state tournament last year, senior Shane Threadgill and the Idabel Warriors find themselves moving to Class 4A this year. But with seven of their top 10 players returning, the quick point guard looks forward to the challenge.

“I feel like we have a chance to get back to the state tournament again since we have most of our key players back,” said Threadgill who averaged 18 points and six rebounds per game last year.

With cousins, uncles and a dad that all played basketball, Shane got an early start playing and has focused on basketball being his only sport. One of those cousins that played was Quinton Threadgill, who Shane considers a role model for him.

“I watched him growing up and I liked the way he could score the ball and the way he fought to be better all the time,” said Shane. “My mom has also been a motivator for me as a single parent who raised me and my sister.”

Shane and teammate Cordavious Hankin are two of the seniors on the team that coach Burchtal Griffin will be counting on this year.

“Shane is a multi-dimensional player who can hit the deep three or take it to the rim and he’s really improved his defensive game over the past couple of years. He’s scored over 1500 points and has 430 rebounds in his career and I think he’s truly one of the best guards in the state and he’ll play at the next level.”

Picking a highlight moment in his career was pretty easy for Threadgill.

“Walking on to the floor at the Big House last year in my first state tournament game. It was an amazing moment to be there with all my teammates and playing in that environment even though we came up short in the end.”

Coach Griffin has said that he thinks Shane will play at the next level and he’s already had discussions with several schools such as Murray State, Southeastern, Langston, Eastern, Seminole and Northern and those discussions are sure to turn to offers if Shane Threadgill continues to be the glue that holds the Idabel Warriors together in 2024.
